BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN — Two Indonesian nationals were recently sentenced for overstaying in Brunei, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to local daily Borneo Bulletin, a 39-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to six months in prison and three strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to overstaying beyond the validity of his immigration pass.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old Indonesian woman was also sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for the same offense under Brunei’s Immigration Act.
Brunei is an oil-rich country located in Southeast Asia. Its labor market attracts foreign workers from neighboring countries.
